Eris was named recently (September 2006) as it was waiting to be either classified as a planet or a dwarf planet, as this was part of the astronomer’s dilemma over whether Pluto was a planet or not.
Once Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf Planet, as was this unnamed object it was up for naming. Eris is named after the goddess Eris, the personification of strife and discord. (the astronomers agreed to the name over the discord of Pluto)
Eris was Aries’ (the god of war) sister, and was an attendant with him on the battlefield. It has been observed that when a planet, asteroid, or dwarf planet is named it reflects what is going on in Earth and is what we as humans need to pay attention to and learn the lesson. Thank heavens Eris moves very slowly it takes 556.7 years to orbit the Sun. Eris has a moon named Dysnomia who was Eris’ daughter who was the demon of lawlessness.
I think this if funny as Eris was nicknamed Xena the warrior princess played by Lucy “Lawless”….. until the official naming in September. So Eris spends around 46 years in each sign it is only really significant in your charts by house or unless it is in strong aspect with a planet or angle.
Currently Eris is 20 degree’s Aries (the sign of war) saying to us that war, discord, and lawlessness is what we need to address on a global level. Aries is a sign of independence, freedom, to be your self, and assertive, a pioneer, and if it is repressed by anyone it is going to want to fight for those freedoms to be an individual.
This is the lesson of Eris in Aries is what the human race needs to focus on our freedom as individuals to be ourselves and to allow all to have the same freedom. Since this is not what is happening this is the reason for the “Discord”, we are experiencing.
